Branching Season
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 13:22 - GNOME
Since 2.18 is right at the corner, there have been much branching in the last days. This is an excerpt from the maintainer corner page on live.gnome.org:
When you branch, please remember to let release-team, desktop-devel-list, gnome-doc-list, and gnome-i18n know. It is especially important that translators and documenters know, so they can concentrate on the stable branches during the run up to the final release, and afterwards when further stable releases will be made.
As I have been busy updating jhbuild moduleset with announces I wondered if I may have missed some, or if some were unannounced. Enter a new command:
$ jhbuild checkbranches libbonobo is missing branch definition libgnome is missing branch definition libbonoboui is missing branch definition libgnomeui is missing branch definition libgnomeprint is missing branch definition gnome-utils is missing branch definition gnome-games is missing branch definition gnome-nettool is missing branch definition
What it does is iterating over modules and for those that are not announced as branched, looking up viewcvs to check it is true.
And out of curiosity:
$ jhbuild -m gnome-2.16 checkbranches gnome-common is missing branch definition libbonobo is missing branch definition gnome-python is missing branch definition gtksourceview is missing branch definition evolution-webcal is missing branch definition fast-user-switch-applet is missing branch definition alacarte is missing branch definition gnome-mag is missing branch definition
I have fixed both module sets.

whoopsie! I sent the branch announcement to the release-team, i18n and doc lists, and not on d-d-l. :-)
